LETTER FROM A CLIENT
Often, the people who reach out to me are not the storytellers themselves, but their loved ones, who want me to help preserve a life, or some parts of a life, in words. This is a particular privilege, because I’ve seen how valuable these records can become. The letter below is one of the most moving affirmations I have received.
When my dad began to slow down and show signs of memory loss, I realized how important it was to preserve his incredible life story. He had worked tirelessly up until the age of 85, and his journey deserved to be documented. That’s when I found Daniel Browde, who came highly recommended for having written and published his own grandfather’s story – and I now understand why.
Daniel was simply amazing. He was patient, efficient, kind and always open to feedback and changes. He treated my dad’s story with the care and respect it deserved, and the process felt incredibly personal and meaningful from start to finish.
At the time, I had no idea just how important this book would become.
My dad is now approaching 90 and due to the progression of vascular dementia, he is no longer able to walk or communicate. I live in Boston, and when I’m not in South Africa visiting my dad, I read him passages from his memoir every day. He laughs and cries as he listens – it has become one of the most profound ways we stay connected.
This memoir is more than just a book – it’s a bridge to the man my father was and still is deep inside. It’s given our family a gift we can never truly put into words.
Thank you, Daniel, for helping us hold on to the essence of who my dad is. This book is a treasure, and we are forever grateful.
