RECORD: TELL YOUR STORY

WHAT IS RECORD?

As an experienced journalist and published biographer, I know the challenges and rewards of getting life story into print. Since 2013 I have been working on RECORD… largely working elderly people who want to….with cutting-edge book designers and printers to craft beautiful books telling personal and family stories.

In an era of cookie-cutter, AI-generated memoirs, RECORD is unapologetically human. I use personally tailored questions and face-to-face interviews, shaped by deep listening, to draw out the richest possible material from my clients. From these stories, I work carefully to craft volumes that reflect my clients’ lives in all their richness and complexity.

HOW IT WORKS

In our first meeting, the client and I discuss, at length, the story they wish to tell. Based on that discussion, I create a detailed set of questions and prompts to guide reflection ahead of the interview stage.

Then, we talk and record. The number of interviews varies depending on the project.

Once the interviews are all complete, I take over, carefully shaping the transcripts into one compelling narrative, appropriately divided into parts and chapters. During this stage, I also spend time with the client selecting the images that best illuminate the story. The content thus in place, I collaborate with talented designers and printers to produce an elegant edition for the client to own and share.
